New name honors a long legacy

The Patton family name is synonymous with dedication to public education—at Ohio University and beyond. That legacy is about to shine a little brighter on OHIO’s Athens Campus.

In October, the Ohio University Board of Trustees approved the renaming of OHIO’s home of the Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education from McCracken Hall to Gladys W. and David H. Patton Hall. The name change honors the Patton family and Dr. Violet L. Patton, BSED ’38, whose extraordinary generosity has advanced the Patton College and arts education at Ohio University.
