The Global Mobility Committee (GMC) seeks proposals from faculty and staff on all Ohio University campuses who are interested in contributing to student mobility.
Study abroad/away programs are high-impact practices that foster integrative learning, which is a goal of OHIO’s general education curriculum and experiential learning broadly. Students who engage in these programs report positive outcomes in many areas, including personal growth, academic knowledge, career development and civic engagement.
The current call is for programs expected to run in summer 2024/2025 or fall 2024/2025. Programs that meet the following criteria will be considered:
- Are credit-bearing
- Offered during summer or fall semester
- Have a director and an additional OHIO employee identified with the understanding that both will travel with the program
- Preference given to programs intended to run annually (both Summer 2024/2025 OR during both Fall 2024 and 2025).
The GMC will evaluate how proposed program activities and course objectives relate to OHIO’s integrative learning outcomes and how likely they are to result in deeper cultural and critical understanding without exploitation of the host community. The GMC will review how the program plans to attract students from underrepresented groups and the extent to which the program is open and accessible to students on all OHIO campuses. The associated course(s) will also be taken into consideration; to what extent are they a meaningful addition to participants’ degree plan beyond credits towards graduation? Additionally, feedback from the associated academic leadership will be considered, as will how the program contributes to the academic and geographic diversity of the complete catalog of programs.
The application deadline is June 12, 2023, at 11:59 p.m., and individuals will be notified of their submission’s status no later than August 21, 2023.
The offices of Global Opportunities and Experiential Learning hosted three sessions in April 2023 to share more about the proposal process, brainstorm program ideas and help prepare interested individuals who are in submitting a strong proposal.
More information, including a link to a preview of the proposal questions and access to Qualtrics to complete and submit a proposal, can be found under “Get Started” on this Office of Global Opportunities webpage .
