Ohio University’s College of Health Sciences and Professions recognized OHIO Chillicothe spring graduate Konner Kersey and OHIO Chillicothe’s Student Social Work Association with Dean’s Recognition Awards during a virtual ceremony on April 27, 2023.
OHIO Chillicothe’s Student Social Work Association (SSWA) received the award for Outstanding Contribution to a Greater Community. The group has close ties to community organizations and is heavily involved in the Ross County community.
“Even during COVID-19 closures, the SSWA tried to stay engaged by preparing Friday meals at the Ross County Recovery and Outreach Center,” said Stacey Saunders-Adams, assistant professor of social work and advisor of the SSWA at OHIO Chillicothe. “SSWA leaders and students are establishing a strong reputation for the OHIO Chillicothe social work program as helpers in the community.”
Kersey received the award for Outstanding Contributor to a Student Organization – Unsung Hero for his contributions to Ohio University Chillicothe’s Student Social Work Association (SSWA) and to the community. He is graduating with his bachelor's degree in social work and was part of the OHIO Honors program. While completing his degree Kersey worked part-time for the Ross County Board of Developmental Disabilities, where he also completed his clinical experience for the social work program. He will transition into a full-time role with the organization after graduation.
“Konner has shown incredible leadership in SSWA and among his peers,” Saunders-Adams said. “He initiates SSWA activities, follows through to ensure they are successful and has taken the initiative to host events on campus that raise awareness of critical social issues. Last year, Konner planned and hosted a rally on campus in support of Ukraine.”
