The Pickaway-Ross Adult Education Basic Peace Officer Academy , in collaboration with Ohio University Chillicothe , celebrated a historic moment as the inaugural class graduated in a ceremony held on Dec. 6, 2023. The event was a testament to the dedication and success of the graduates, who have not only excelled academically but have already secured positions in law enforcement agencies.
The ceremony drew strong support from various law enforcement agencies, highlighting the significance of this achievement. Academy Commander Terri Mikesh expressed her pride, emphasizing the unique bond formed within the class.
"This academy class was truly a family that supported and picked each other up," Mikesh stated.
Out of the six graduates, five have already received commissions with law enforcement agencies, while the sixth has applied to a department in the location of his upcoming move. The diverse opportunities for immediate employment showcase the quality of training provided by the academy.
“We are committed to continuing our partnership with Pickaway-Ross Adult Education to offer this much-needed and high-quality program,” said Ohio University Chillicothe Dean of Campus and Community Relations Roberta Milliken. “We are so proud to be part of the graduates’ success. They have chosen a noble career path, and we look forward to celebrating more of their accomplishments as they go forward in their professions.”
A remarkable achievement for the class was their outstanding performance on the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) exam. Although a passing score required only 70%, the class averaged an exceptional 91%. This accomplishment reflects the dedication, hard work, and high standards maintained by the graduates and their instructors.
The collaboration between Pickaway-Ross Adult Education and Ohio University Chillicothe has proven to be a successful partnership in delivering top-notch training for aspiring law enforcement professionals. The graduates are now poised to contribute to the safety and well-being of their communities.
