Tim Epley stepped into a new role as the executive director of Event Services in Ohio University's Division of Student Affairs this past summer.
Epley, a two-time Bobcat graduate, began his journey as a student employee at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium, managing stage production and audio-visual elements. After graduation, he returned to OHIO in 2007, overseeing ticket sales and finances after some time with Stuart’s Opera House. His role expanded over the years to include event operations, guest services and major event coordination, and he later went on to earn his MPA from OHIO.
Reflecting on his new role, Epley emphasized his excitement about guiding Event Services and continuing to enhance student experiences through strategic improvements.
"We’ve built a strong team, and I’m proud to support their efforts in making our facilities welcoming and functional for everyone," Epley said. He credits the team’s collaboration, especially the leadership team made up of Jeremy Schaffer and Nikki Ohms, as key to their success.
Ohms stepped into a new role this year and oversaw Commencement and major events over the summer. Epley stressed that the department’s success is not a result of his role alone, “it’s because we have a good team, and I’m lucky enough to be able to help them break through barriers and find what we need to have them succeed.”
Upon reflecting on his most impactful moments throughout his time with OHIO, Epley talked about his role with Commencement, and more specifically saying goodbye to Event Services’ graduating student employees.
“You look back and remember we’ve hosted presidents on campus, supported Broadway-level shows, put on these major events, but at the end of the day it comes down to watching our student staff grow and succeed,” Epley said.
With new projects underway, including the revitalization of Baker University Center’s game room and system renovations at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium , Epley is focused on creating vibrant, student-friendly spaces.
“It’s an exciting time to be part of Event Services, and I look forward to continuing our mission of supporting students, faculty, and staff with top-tier event spaces and experiences,” he said.
Epley’s leadership will play a vital role in shaping the future of Ohio University’s Event Services, with a continued focus on meeting the evolving needs of the University community.
