Plasmodiophorid Genera
Classification within this group has changed primarily because of the power of molecular systematics. As more molecular studies are completed, we are seeing the limitations of using purely morphological data for classification of the species and genera in the Phytomyxea. Viz. , classification of plasmodiophorid and phagomyxid taxa is more complex than imagined by previous investigators who were limited primarily to microscopic observations.
As taxa are renamed and(or) reclassified and new members of the group identified, we will include them in the pages of the traditional genera* listed here. Note that this list does not include members of the Phagomyxida.
* On this web site "traditional genera" refers to the 10 genera recognized in Karling's 1968 monograph.
