Applied Linear Algebra

COURSE CONTENT:

A course on linear algebra with an emphasis on applications and computations. Solutions to linear systems, matrices and matrix algebra, determinants, n-dimensional real vector spaces and subspaces, bases and dimension, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalization, norms, inner product spaces, orthogonality and least squares problems.

TEXTBOOK:

Matrix Methods, Applied Linear Algebra, by Bronson and Costa, third edition.

GRADING:

There will be three tests worth 20% each, and a final exam worth 35% of your final mark. The class participation is worth 5 % . The tests (normally) will be at class time.

Final grades will be determined from the following scale: 90- 100  A ,  78-90  B,  66-78  C,  54-66  D.

CHEATING:

ATTENDANCE:

Strongly recommended. Students are responsible for all information and material given in class.

Homework assignments will not be collected and graded, but you will be responsible for test items similar to homework problems, and some of the problems on the tests may literally be the homework problems previously assigned to you.
