C. Scott Smith, Associate Professor of Horn and Theory, earned the BM from the University of Southern Maine, MM from Michigan State University, and pursued doctoral level study at the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. His public teaching experiences include seven years as instrumental music teacher and band director, grades 5 - 12 in three school districts in Pennsylvania and Maine. Smith's college/university career has included positions at Michigan State University (graduate assistant in Theory and Horn), Susquehanna University (PA) - (Assistant Professor of Music, Director of Bands, Horn instructor), Bates College (ME) - Horn Instructor, and University of Southern Maine - Horn Instructor (sabbatical leave replacement).

Mr. Smith's current performing status includes principal horn of Ohio Valley Symphony and Maine State Ballet Orchestra, and founding member of OhioBrass (faculty brass quintet in-residence at Ohio University). His career includes a variety of national experiences as soloist, chamber musician, adjudicator, and conductor. He has performed as an associate member of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra (OH), as a member of the Pottstown Symphony and Chamber Orchestras (PA) (principal horn - nine years), Williamsport Symphony Orchestra (principal horn-seven years), Williamsport Civic Jazz Orchestra (PA), Lee Vincent Big Band Orchestra (PA), Susquehanna Valley Chorale Orchestra (principal horn-nine years), Lansing Symphony Orchestra (MI), Portland Symphony Orchestra (ME), and founding member of the Commonwealth Brass Quintet (PA) (nine years). Additionally, Smith has performed as backup musician to artists such as Doc Severnson, Rosemary Clooney, Henry Mancini, Leonard Rose, Debbie Boone, Dale Clevenger, Chuck Mangione, Gary Burton, Phil Woods, Allen Vizzutti, Eddie Arnold, and Anthony Newelly.

Since 1980, Mr. Smith has been on the faculty at New England Music Camp in Sidney, Maine where he has served as Horn Instructor (performing with the NEMC Faculty Orchestra, Wind and Brass Quintets, and soloist), conductor of Symphonic Band, conductor/director of the Concert Band and Concert Orchestra, and instructor of theory, composition, conducting and solfege.
