Due to an HVAC construction project, the 6th and 7th floors of Alden Library will be closed to the public from December 13 through January 3rd.
If you need a book from the stacks on the 6th or 7th floors, simply use the “request” button near the top of the ALICE screen for self-pickup within one business day on the 2nd floor. If you need the book sooner, contact us via chat or at a service desk and an available staff member will retrieve the book for you.
Study spaces and carrels on the floors will be unavailable during this time as well.
Air Handling Units 3 and 4, located above the 7th floor in the Alden Library “penthouse”, will be fully rebuilt, improving environmental conditions in the center of floors 4, 5, 6, and 7. Initial work will include new piping and electrical conduit on the 6th and 7th floors, which requires temporarily relocating rows of books or covering them with plastic, as well as temporarily closing the floor.
We are hopeful construction on the 6th and 7th floors will be finished prior to the first day of Spring Semester. Work in the penthouse will continue through the semester and there will likely be some associated noise. We thank you for your patience and look forward to better environmental control on these floors in the coming years!
