Apparition, Interiority, Sampson, Innocence, Ascendency

These figure studies were all done during the Tuesday evening open drawing sessions at the Dairy Barn Cultural Center in Athens, Ohio. They are made using recycled and/or discarded paper with a layer of house paint over the surface. After the paint dried, mineral spirits were applied to the surface and graphite was used to sketch over the mixture. The graphite melted into the surface so that the medium itself could guide the figure’s formation, visually interpreting the models, their warmth, their thoughts, their center, and their space. Even the blood flowing through their bodies is channeled through this medium.
