Like everyone else, I’ve been spending a lot of time at home lately. Home for me is in Meigs County, Ohio. Our county is right on the Ohio River and is very rural. I live with my parents on a few acres of land bordering my grandpa’s farm land, which is many more acres. I kind of hated living out in the country growing up, but I’ve come to appreciate it so much more as I’ve gotten older. I thought this week I’d share some art from the vault that reminds me of home.
River Home by Paul Riba
1976
Mountains and House by Edna Martha Way
20 th century
These pieces by Paul Riba and Edna Martha Way remind me so much of the town Reedsville, which is a super small town right on the river. Driving along the river is always super scenic and charming, as there are so many small houses scattered about.
Giant Thistles by Jamie Wyeth
1984
Meigs County has lots of fields and farm land, and this piece by Jamie Wyeth reminds me of the landscape here. This could almost be a painting of my own backyard.
Dogwood at Shiloh by David G. Currie
1997
This one is dear to my heart, as there is a white flowering dogwood tree in my front yard outside my window. It’s blossoming right now, and that’s one of my favorite things about this time of year. I’m so lucky to be home everyday at the moment to see it in bloom.
These artworks inspire me to appreciate my local landscape more. Seeing the things I see outside everyday being depicted in art makes my brain romanticize them in a way. I encourage you to look at things everyday through the eyes of an artist, and find the beauty in everything.
