Tenured faculty at Ohio University who are enrolled in the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS) may elect to teach part-time after retirement under the University's Early Retirement program. Tenured faculty enrolled in the Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP) may be eligible for the program if they meet the same eligibility requirements as those enrolled in STRS. Faculty enrolled in the ARP are not eligible for STRS benefits. Retiring faculty choosing this option can continue to teach on a part-time basis, up until age seventy, while receiving their retirement pay.
The standard arrangement is for the faculty member to teach the equivalent of one-third of the specified departmental teaching load for a third of the annual base salary.
Detailed information may be found in the Faculty Handbook
, Section III.R.
STRS Participants Returning to Ohio University under the Early Retirement Program
Per the STRS website "Reemployment in a public position in Ohio after retirement is restricted during the first two months following retirement. If you are employed by only one public employer at the time of retirement, you must wait two months after your retirement date to return to public employment. Public employment or volunteering during the first two months will result in the loss of one or two months of retirement benefits. For more information, contact STRS Member Services Center toll-free at 1-888-227-7877." Or check the STRS website for information.
