How can I be considered for the OHIO Next Generation Award?

Freshman students: Submit a complete application for admission, including all supporting materials, by November 15 to be considered for this program.

Transfer students: Apply for admission and be admitted to Ohio University by June 15 to be considered for this program.

The OHIO Next Generation award is available only to new first-year or transfer students admitted for fall semester 2024. 

How will I find out if I have received the OHIO Next Generation Award?

You will be notified via mail when you have been awarded the OHIO Next Generation Award.

If my award letter indicates that I have received the OHIO Next Generation Award, how will I accept it?

Freshman students: Award recipients must submit their housing contracts and housing deposits (or commuter contract) on or before May 1 to receive the award. Program funding for recipients who submit their housing contracts and deposits after May 1 will be contingent on availability.

Transfer students: No formal acceptance is needed from transfer students to receive the award.

What is the OHIO Next Generation Award?

The OHIO Next Generation Award is a scholarship given to any new full-time Athens Campus first-year or transfer student who is required to pay the non-resident surcharge and whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) hold a degree from Ohio University. For the 2023-2024 academic year, the award is valued at $10,368. The award amount is subject to change.

I have already received a letter indicating that I have been awarded a different scholarship. How does the OHIO Next Generation Award affect me?

Students participating in the Ohio University Educational Benefits Program or a full athletic scholarship are not eligible to be considered for the OHIO Next Generation Award. Recipients of the District of Columbia (D.C.) Tuition Assistance Grant, which covers non-resident fees, are not eligible for the OHIO Next Generation Award or the Fine Arts Talent Trustee Award. The OHIO Next Generation Award replaces the OHIO Trustee Award and the Fine Arts Talent Trustee Award. Additional restrictions may apply, and the program is subject to change.

Are Ohio residents eligible for the OHIO Next Generation Award?

Ohio residents are not eligible for the OHIO Next Generation Award; however, children of alumni residing within Ohio are eligible to apply for other legacy scholarships through the Alumni Association. More information may be found on the Ohio University Alumni Association page .

Are current OHIO students eligible for the OHIO Next Generation Award?

The OHIO Next Generation Award is available to students enrolling at OHIO beginning in fall 2024. Current OHIO students may be eligible to apply for other legacy scholarships through the Alumni Association. More information may be found on the Ohio University Alumni Association page .

Are other forms of financial assistance available?

Yes. Award letters, which will be mailed beginning in March for freshman students and early June for transfer students, will include any other institutional, state and/or federal aid for which you may qualify.
