Christine Pirot -International Development Studies

Georgia Alexander -Latin American Studies - Georgia comes from Yellow Springs, which is small town with much diversity in Ohio. After graduating from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a Latin American Studies certificate, Georgia chose to stay at OHIO and pursue a graduate degree in the Center for International Studies to further her knowledge of Latin America. Georgia is very active in campus activities and her multicultural background provides her with excellent social skills for interacting with the international community in Athens. Her career goals are to combine her knowledge of communication and Latin American Studies to work with immigrants and Latin-American businesses.

Eric Santiago-Southeast Asian Studies - The diverse city of Buffalo, New York, is Eric’s home town and also where he went to college among a large Asian population. Eric became increasingly interested in studying Southeast Asia and chose to pursue a master’s degree in Southeast Asian Studies at Ohio University, despite never having been to the region. Eric enjoys the flexible curriculum in the program that allows him to study the region from multiple perspectives. He hopes to conduct research and travel in the region as part of his program of study. Following the completion of his graduate studies, Eric hopes to work for either a government agency, a non-profit organization or in an educational institute.

Rashmi Sharma -Communication and Development Studies - Rashmi comes from India and is a development professional working on participatory rural communication through video and film in India. After working as a documentary filmmaker for ten years, Rashmi chose Ohio University to further her education in the unique field of communication and development studies. The program at OHIO provides her the opportunity to connect theory with practice. Rashmi appreciates the international atmosphere in Athens and is enjoying be a part of that community.

Komey Audre -African Studies - Komey comes from Accra, Ghana. After discussing possible education options with a lecturer at Ohio University, Komey chose to come to America and continue her education in Athens with the support of family. She enjoys the welcoming atmosphere in Athens that makes her feel at home. “Everyone is willing to help you out,” Komey says. Her friends say that Komey’s laugh – her trademark - helps to brighten up their day. Komey’s career goals are to acquire knowledge and practical experience in the area of African Studies that can help her advance her planning career in Ghana, as well as the development of her country.

Undergraduate Student Profiles

Emma Bogard -African Studies - Emma is from Dayton, Ohio. She is double major in social work and international studies with focus on Africa and women’s studies. As one of the first in her family to go to college, Emma strives to learn as much as she can. She wants to continue on to graduate school after college study to advance her knowledge of social concerns in Africa, particularly relating to women. Emma hopes to visit Africa, perhaps through an internship or study abroad program focused on non-profit organizations and women’s issues. Emma’s career goal is to work with immigration populations in United States or work with non-profit international organizations.

Laura Kim- European Studies - Laura is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She is a junior at Ohio University and dual major in European Studies and German, with a specialization in Business. Laura studied abroad in Germany for three months, and the experience helped her to develop a new interest in German/European Studies and focus her education. Laura is very active in campus life; she likes singing, traveling and making friends. She has not yet decided what she would like to do after college.
