All graduate applications must be submitted electronically through the Graduate College. You will be prompted to first select the term for which you wish to apply. Then select “Graduate Degree Application.”
Program Requirements
To be eligible for acceptance into the Master’s of Reading Education Program applicants’ transcripts must demonstrate that they have taken at least 12 credit hours in literacy education coursework (for Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Childhood, and Special Education.) However, only 9 credit hours in literacy education is required for those whose licenses are in Adolescent/Young Adult or Multi-Age.) In addition, applicants are required to hold a current, valid teaching license. If needed, Ohio University offers additional coursework in literacy education which can be taken before applying for the program as a nondegree student.
Admission Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree: Applicants are expected to have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university or equivalent.
- Official Transcripts of all academic work showing a 3.0 GPA must be submitted with the online application.
- Three Letters of recommendationare required. They can be from former employers, instructors, advisers, or persons otherwise having had a professional or academic experience with you.
- Academic Writing Sample:Examples may include a published paper or a paper submitted for a course.
- English Proficiency: Please review information about Ohio University’s English Language Proficiency requirements.
- A $50 application feeis associated with the submission of your application for this program.
All applications will be reviewed holistically, however, prospective master’s students generally should have an undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.00 (4.00 point scale) and a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent.
