The Choose Ohio First Scholarships provide Ohio residents with additional financial support to complete degrees in STEM related disciplines. Students who are Ohio residents may be eligible for a Choose Ohio First scholarship through one of three programs listed below. These programs are designed to significantly strengthen Ohio’s competitiveness within STEM disciplines and STEM education by investing in innovative academic programs across the state.
Students are selected for Choose Ohio First scholarships based on their application materials. All Choose Ohio First scholarship recipients are expected (required) to complete a Work-Based Learning experience prior to graduation.

Cohort 1 - Computer Science
Open to computer science majors.
Benefits:
- Dedicated tutoring pool for Choose Ohio First scholars.
- Dedicated travel funds for research-active Choose Ohio First Scholars.
- Dedicated research fellowships for Choose Ohio First Scholars (additional application required).
Requirements:
- Maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Mandatory one-on-one advising session with their Choose Ohio First advisor once per semester to ensure satisfactory academic progress.
- Must remain in computer science.
Cohort 2 - Advanced Manufacturing
Open to all engineering majors.
Benefits:
- Exclusive programming includes bi-weekly seminars on topics relevant to advanced manufacturing
Requirements:
- Maintain a GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- Attend 8 hours of Choose Ohio First events during the semester.
Cohort 3 - Energy and the Environment
Open to all majors in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology that involve Energy or the Environment.
