Ricarrdo Hunter-Valentine 

Assistant Professor of Instruction and Director of the Summer Dance Institute

Ricarrdo Hunter-Valentine is a second-generation Black Jamaican estadounidense, artist, educator, and certified Ohio farmer whose interdisciplinary practice integrates dance, photography, agriculture, and technology. Guided by intuition and rooted in values of collaboration, individuality, and intimacy, his work spans performance, research, and visual documentation. Hunter-Valentine’s choreographic and performance work has been presented at intuition such as The Wexner Center for the Arts, Pulitzer Arts Foundation, Brooklyn Museum, and more. His photographic work has been exhibited internationally, including the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, Centro Universitario de las Artes in México and Five Myles in Brooklyn, NY. 

He is the co-founder of Brother(hood) Dance!, a collective that engages questions of Black identity through performance and research. With Brother(hood) Dance!, was a 2023 Elevated Artist recipient from the Greater Columbus Arts Council and a 2020 Bessie Award Honoree for  Afro/Solo/Man . His ethnovisual project  Where My People At?,  created during his 2020-2021 NorthStar Art Incubator Fellowship, explored themes of place, diaspora, and ancestral memory. Hunter-Valentine has collaborated with leading artists and companies including Christal Brown/INSPIRIT, Edisa Weeks/Delirious Dance, Paloma McGregor, Dante Brown/Warehouse Dance, Jill Sigman/thinkdance, Nija Whitson/NWA, André Zachary/ Renegade Performance Group, Emily Berry/B3W, Barak adé Soleil, and Gallman’s Newark Dance Theater. 

He holds an MFA in Dance from The Ohio State University, where his graduate research centered on agricultural knowledge systems and emergent technologies in Black diasporic movement practices. IN 2025 he was named a Dance/USA fellow to Artists. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Dance and Director of the Summer Dance Institute at Ohio University.
