Bachelor of Arts in Music

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Music Degree Program

What You'll Learn

The Bachelor of Arts in Music (B.A.) is designed for students with excellent musicianship who seek a broader degree program than is typically possible within a B.M. curriculum.

Study topics like:

  • Music Theory
  • Aural Skills, Dictation
  • Major Instrument + Piano
  • Performance
  • Music History

Career Opportunities

B.A. requires fewer credits, allowing more opportunities for study in a second area of interest. Double majors, additional minors, and pre-med and pre-law studies are all possible with this program. The B.A. is a true liberal arts degree, and thus prepares students for a wide variety of careers, as well as provides enough flexibility to prepare for graduate school in areas such as music, law, medicine, or business.

Study Abroad

Ohio University provides a wide range of opportunities to earn college credit through Education Abroad programs. The College of Fine Arts sponsors a number of these programs, including offerings in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. See Global Opportunities for more details.

Performance Opportunities

All students enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree program participate in a variety of School of Music vocal and/or instrumental ensembles. These range from the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, The Marching 110, Jazz Ensembles & Combos, Symphony Orchestra, Singing Men of Ohio, Bella Voce, University Singers, Choral Union, Opera Theater, New Music Ensemble, African Ensemble, and numerous chamber music ensembles.

Applying to the Program

All students who seek admission to Ohio University with a major in Music must audition. The audition is for both admission and talent-based scholarship decisions.
