Overview

Spend 8 days on the Emerald Isle absorbing its lush, beautiful rolling green hills and rich history while earning 3 hours of Ohio University credit. Students will experience both the charming traditions and culture of the Irish as well as be exposed to the industrial, technological and economic growth happening currently.

  • Explore historical sitesthat have witnessed centuries of pivotal events, from ancient castles to poignant prisons.
  • Marvel at cultural landmarksthat house treasures of knowledge and faith, each with its own unique tale to tell.
  • Experience the breathtaking beauty of Ireland's natural attractions, where the rugged cliffs and serene landscapes offer a glimpse into the island's soul.
  • Immerse yourself in local experiences, savoring Ireland's iconic creations and the lively rhythms of traditional Irish music.

Good to Know

  • Physical Activity:The program will require moderate to extensive walking and standing to participate in guided city tours, museum visits, and professional meetings.
  • Academic Expectations:Students will be required to attend ALL information sessions, participate in ALL planned activities while in Ireland, and complete ALL academic requirements to earn their credit.
  • Schedule:Please note, there will be a generous amount of free time for students to explore on their own.

Living Arrangements

Shared (2-3 students per room) occupancy housing in hotels will be provided for students in each location. Breakfast will be included every day.

The following information is intended to help participants understand the estimated costsassociated with the program.  For additional information regarding program costs, please refer to Understanding Program Costs for Ohio-Credit Programs .

As of April 29, 2025, the total estimated cost for Winter Break 2025-2026 is expected to be:

  • Undergraduate Estimate:$7,236 + 3 Credits of Spring Regional-Campus Tuition/Fees*

Tuition rates are based on participant's Tuition Guarantee or Graduate Program of Study (refer to Bursars for more information).

The credit hours offered for a Winter Break program are part of the spring semester course load . Participants will not incur additional tuition costs for the spring semester if they are taking 12-20 (Undergraduate) or 9-18 (Graduate) credits including the credit hours associated with this program. Students taking less or more than a full course load will see their tuition adjusted accordingly.

Eligibility Requirements

This program is open to all undergraduate Ohio University students in good academic standing. Regional campus students will be prioritized when nominating.

Students who will be on probation at any point during the program for a conduct offense that took place less than a calendar year from the program start date may not study abroad. Read the entire conduct policy(opens in a new window)

Participants must have at least a high school diploma or the equivalent (e.g. GED) by the start date of the program to be considered for eligibility.  Students enrolled in College Credit Plus (CC+) are not eligible for study away programs.

Application Requirements

When applying, applicants will be required to submit:

  • a DARs
  • A typed one-page typed essay that highlights why you would like to be part of the program and what you hope to gain from the experience beyond earning credit.

This program reviews applications on a rolling basis. Early applications are strongly encouraged.

Entry and Exit Requirements

U.S. citizens are required to have a valid U.S. passport when traveling outside of the United States. If you plan to study or travel abroad in the next year,   apply for your passport   now.

U.S. citizens  will not  need a visa or other special document to enter the country for the length of this program. Please also note that visa requirements may vary if you plan to stay in the country longer than the program dates or travel to other countries during or after the program. Please familiarize yourself with these recommendations and requirements prior to applying to this program.
