Established in 1804, Ohio University (OHIO) opened in 1808 with one building, three students and one professor. Today, OHIO has over 200,000 alumni worldwide and currently enrolls over 36,000 students across multiple campuses in Ohio and online. OHIO is rated a Very High Research Activity Institution by the Carnegie Foundation, and researchers hold more than 250 patents worldwide.

Innovative Interdisciplinary Programs

Innovation Center
OHIO’s Innovation Center has provided more than $4 million to date for interdisciplinary research, teaching and institutional innovation. Funded projects include initiatives to develop an improved diagnostic tool for osteoporosis, a system for incubating and hatching novel classroom teaching methods, a strategy for keeping more jobs and revenue from the shale industry in Appalachia, and a new immersive media program that supports research and creative work in virtual and augmented reality technologies while preparing students for the field.

Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs
The Graduate College hosts interdisciplinary degrees in Translational Biomedical Sciences and the Individual Interdisciplinary Program , which allows students to pursue innovative research drawing from faculty expertise across the university.
