Summary of Work
I am a clinical psychologist with specialized training in behavioral health in primary care settings. I aim to advance research, medical education, and public awareness of the effects of psychological trauma on health. My research examines the effects of childhood adversity on adult health, narrative accounts of trauma and resilience, how traumatic stress in patients affects physician burnout, and designing trauma-informed care training programs for health professionals.
An enduring passion for narrative, storytelling, and the arts informs my teaching and scholarship. I co-created and teach a narrative medicine elective class (The Open Book Project) for first and second year medical students. I also serve as the Associate Director of the Barbara Geralds Institute for Storytelling and Social Impact and co-produce and co-host Defining Moments podcast with Lynn Harter, PhD.
