Peterson, Reisinger to deliver speeches at Graduation Recognition Ceremony

Senator Bob Peterson of Senate District 17 and Ohio University Chillicothe’s graduating senior Joshua Reisinger will deliver remarks at this year’s Graduation Recognition Ceremony on May 4, 2018.

The Graduation Recognition Ceremony honors the accomplishments of the Class of 2018 at the regional campus level the night before commencement at Ohio University.

Peterson will keynote the ceremony held in the Chillicothe campus Shoemaker Center, while Reisinger will give the class remarks as the chosen student representative.

Senator Peterson received his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and its LEAD Program. He represents the 17th Ohio Senate District, which encompasses Clinton, Fayette, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Pike, and Ross counties as well as portions of Lawrence, Pickaway, and Vinton counties. A farmer by trade, Senator Peterson and his brother are the 8th generation of Petersons to farm in the U.S. Peterson raises corn, soybeans, wheat, and livestock on his family’s farm. He also has been active in the Farm Bureau in a variety of leadership positions, culminating to his position as Ohio Farm Bureau President for nearly five years.

In addition to his farming duties, Senator Peterson served as a Fayette County Commissioner for 14 years before being elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2011. He joined the Ohio Senate in 2012, where his knowledge and leadership have earned him a seat at the table on the issues that matter most to the families and communities of the 17th Senate District. Peterson currently serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Rules and Reference Committee and as a member of the Ways and Means Committee, Agriculture Committee, Government Oversight and Reform Committee, Local Government, Public Safety and Veterans Affairs Committee, and Finance General Government Subcommittee.

The class speaker for this year’s ceremony is Joshua Reisinger, a social work major and former Marine Corps veteran from Chillicothe. Reisinger was selected to deliver the class address by the graduation committee. He is also a representative in the campus’s Veteran Services Office.

“It’s an absolute honor to have been nominated. It’s a privilege for the University to select me and I’m humbled that I get to represent the class of 2018,” said Reisinger. “After receiving a warm welcome when I first started, and continued support as a non-traditional student, I would encourage anyone who is thinking about furthering their education to consider what OUC has to offer.”

The Graduation Recognition Ceremony will take place May 4, 2018 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Shoemaker Center at the Chillicothe campus. The community is invited to attend the evening’s celebration in honor of our graduating class of 2018. A reception will be held immediately following the conclusion of the ceremony in the Shoemaker Center.
