The Hugh M. Culbertson Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) at Ohio University was recognized as the gold standard of all PRSSA chapters in the country by being awarded the Dr. F.H. Teahan Outstanding Chapter award.
The qualifications for this award include a demonstration of new ideas, successful fundraisers, strong alumni relations and a well-established student-run firm, which is 1804 Communication at OHIO. Recipients must show leadership on a National level, have a strong relationship with PRSA and Chapter advisers and also show active chapter membership. PRSSA consists of over 350 nationally affiliated chapters across the United States, Argentina, Colombia and Peru.
“I’m speechless,” said Brigitte Meisse, 2018-19 chapter president. “There is nothing more validating than seeing all of our hard work pay off. None of this would have been possible without the endless support of our 2017-2018 executive board, chapter members, advisers and professors.”
Scripps PRSSA was also recently named a Star Chapter for the fifth consecutive year. A Star Chapter is recognized by PRSSA National for achieving eight out of ten requirements related to professional development and relationship building. These include holding a community service project, high school outreach, attending National Conference and recruiting diverse majors.
The chapter has big plans for the rest of this academic year including improving alumni network relations. They will also participate in the 2019 National Bateman Case Study Competition, where they earned Honorable Mention in 2018. Scripps PRSSA is looking forward to celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2019 and upholding a strong foundation that allows it to continue a tradition of success.
