Ohio University has been named one of the nation’s top military-friendly schools for the 13th consecutive year by Viqtory Media, a veteran-owned company and publisher of G.I. Jobs magazine. For 2024-2025, Ohio University earned the Military-Friendly School #6 ranking for Tier 1 research institutions in the nation, while also earning the Military Spouse-Friendly School #7 ranking.

The Military Friendly Schools® list honors colleges, universities and trade schools across the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and dependents as students and ensure their success on campus.

“I am proud to see Ohio University once again recognized as a top military-friendly school,” Ohio University President Lori Stewart Gonzalez said. “This honor reflects our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional support and opportunities for our brave servicemen and women as they pursue their educational goals. We are proud to foster an inclusive and supportive environment where every member of our military community can thrive, succeed and have access to a higher education.”

To determine a school’s military friendly ranking, Viqtory weighs several metrics consisting of academic policies and compliance; graduation and career outcomes; culture and commitment; military student support and retention; admissions and orientation; and financial aid and loan repayment.

“We are honored to be recognized for the support we provide to our military-connected students,” Terry St. Peter, director of Veterans and Military Student Services at OHIO, said. “It is exciting to be in the Top Ten in the nation for not only supporting our student veterans, but also our military spouses.  As a veteran, I recognize the sacrifices the entire family makes in support of the veterans’ service.”

At Ohio University, the  Veterans and Military Student Services Center  provides programs and services for student veterans, military personnel and their family members, including:

  • A wide variety of social and academic support outlets
  • Participation in a military-focused transition seminar
  • Priority course registration
  • Assistance transitioning from military to academic life
  • Assistance with deployment and training issues
  • Access to OHIO’s Veterans Lounge in Baker University Center
  • Graduation stoles recognizing their branch of service

Recently, OHIO also implemented a student veteran and military incentive scholarship for online student veterans that will help alleviate the cost and make receiving an education more accessible.

“We are continually looking for ways to improve our support to the warriors and supporting family members.  With the support of our university leadership, we have some exciting new programs and services coming next academic year as well, like our new Veterans Success Program,” St. Peter added.
