OHIO community invited to participate in Athens Beautification Month activities

Ohio University and the City of Athens invite all students, faculty, staff and community members to participate in Athens Beautification projects occurring throughout April.

Athens Beautification Month is a partnership between the City of Athens, OHIO Center for Community Engagement , Office of Sustainability and numerous community partner organizations. The annual event provides opportunities for students, staff, faculty and community volunteers to help clean up and beautify the community.

This year, community partners include Community Food Initiatives, the Outdoor Recreation Council of Appalachia, the Athens Lions Club, Athens Public Library, Tenderfoot Learning Lab, and UCM Center.

“Athens Beautification events are a great opportunity for our campus and community members to work together,” said Courtney Lefebvre, associate director of community engagement at Ohio University. “For individuals and groups on campus especially, these projects can be a first step to build relationships with community organizations doing critical work in our region, that we hope ultimately grow into deep and meaningful curricular and co-curricular partnerships with time.”

To participate, volunteers can visit the Athens Beautification Month event listing on GivePulse to view the full calendar and register. Transportation from campus is being provided for several events over the course of the month and volunteers can reserve their seat in a campus van when they register.  All volunteers will also receive free t-shirts.
