Ohio University Board of Trustees appoints Casciani to lead board, adds second Vice Chair position to membership

The Ohio University Board of Trustees appointed Steve Casciani as the new Board chair and selected Trustee Scott Borgemenke to serve as the Board’s First Vice-Chair and Trustee Matthew Evans as the Second Vice-Chair to its membership during its April 5 meeting on the Athens Campus. 

The Board unanimously approved an amendment to its bylaws to add a second Vice Chair role to its existing membership structure, citing the valuable contributions and insights that will be gained as a result of this change. 

Each individual will officially assume their new Board role on May 14, 2024.

“I am honored to continue serving Ohio University and the Board of Trustees as Board Chair,” Casciani said. “Higher education is a powerful opportunity that can forever impact the lives of our students, their families and their communities; I look forward to helping OHIO further its vision to deliver the most valuable University education in the state and beyond."

About Board of Trustees Chair Casciani

Trustee Steve Casciani is a venture capitalist and energy entrepreneur who also actively supports social and faith-based philanthropic efforts in the United States and the developing world. Casciani started Border Energy in 2003 and grew it to be a provider of natural gas and electricity services to more than 80,000 industrial, commercial and residential customers in Ohio, Indiana and Michigan before its sale in 2014. 

He subsequently founded Grace Light Capital to invest in small start-ups in Central Ohio, as well as international social business ventures.

About First Vice-Chair Borgemenke

Trustee Scott Borgemenke currently serves as the Senior Vice President for Advocacy and Communications at the Ohio Hospital Association (OHA). OHA is the nation’s oldest state-level hospital association and represents 220 hospitals and 13 health systems across Ohio. In his role as chief lobbyist for the association, Scott directs strategy and policy development as well as leads a team of five in representing the membership before the Ohio Legislature as well as the media. 

Prior to joining OHA in 2013, Scott served at the highest levels of state government for more than 20 years.

About Second Vice-Chair Evans

Trustee Matthew Evans is the president of Boich Companies, a diversified holding company of energy services and energy marketing businesses. Evans joined Boich Companies in 2001 and led its public affairs activities at the state and federal levels. He became Boich Companies’ president in 2016 and focused on leading the company into a more diversified portfolio in the energy sector. 

Evans, a 1993 graduate of OHIO, received the 2016 Outstanding Alumni Award from the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs at Ohio University. He is also a member of the Voinovich School Executive Committee and has stayed actively involved with the Marching 110 Alumni Society.
