Dr. Pamela Kaylor(Ph.D., Ohio University) teaches courses in Communication Studies and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She is also an affiliated faculty for the Center for Law, Justice, and Culture and a COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) Fellow. Her primary areas of instructional interest include qualitative research, gendered communication, intercultural and cross-cultural communication, and rhetoric.
Dr. Kaylor has presented papers and served on panels at numerous conferences and served as an invited speaker for women’s and international organizations. Her dissertation was an analysis of the rhetorical strategies and biography of Allie Corbin Hixson, a Kentucky Equal Rights Advocate who was later inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame.
As a COIL Fellow, Dr. Kaylor has taught numerous classes in collaboration with instructors from other countries wherein students work in international teams on projects, including projects with The Hague in The Netherlands, Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua (Mexico), and in Tianjin Normal University (China). Dr. Kaylor received training for COIL from the SUNY COIL Institute sponsored by the U.S. and Mexico embassies. She is also a faculty member of the PICUSMX Program. For COIL Outreach, Dr. Kaylor has traveled to Germany, The Netherlands, throughout Mexico, England, France, Spain, and was a faculty member in the Global Connections Program to Vietnam and Thailand. Dr. Kaylor is currently organizing a study abroad program for students in Thailand with OGO partner Thai Instructor Pittaya Paladroi-Shane.
Kaylor serves on several OHIO University committees, including the MLK Jr Celebration and Juneteenth Committee, Diversity and Inclusion Group, Provost Excellence Teaching Award selection, Experiential Learning Faculty and Student Grants Selection Committee, and COMS Recognition Committee.
Beyond academics, Dr. Kaylor has a long history of activism and service to the community. Kaylor has been instrumental in organizing events, including Take Back the Night, the Celebrate Women Conference, the Clothesline Project, Women in Technology and Science Day, the Women’s Leadership Summit, a Bootcamp for Women Running for Office, Social Justice Week, and other gender/culturally focused events. She serves as a reviewer for the Ohio Communication Journal. At OHIO Lancaster, Pamela Kaylor serves on the Diversity Committee and is a faculty representative for two student groups — the Allies for Human Rights (A4HR) and the Student Veterans Association.
Dr. Kaylor has received numerous awards for her work. She was presented with the 2019 Regional Higher Education Distinguished Lecturer Award. In 2017, she was selected Professor of the Year and presented the commencement speech. Kaylor was awarded for Distinguished Teacher Service and was selected by student organizations as the Outstanding Instructor. Dr. Kaylor received the International Women’s Day Award from the International Women’s Day Committee. She has earned several awards in COIL and the Social Justice in the Classroom Award. For her service, she was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel, was named an Ambassador of Good Will for the state of Kentucky and the Department of Tourism, awarded the John Houk Memorial Research Grant from Ohio University, the Linda Cochran-Breazeale Fellowship from Murray State University, and was named Outstanding Kentucky Graduate Student and Outstanding Graduate Teaching Associate by the Kentucky Communication Association. She received a Senate Citation from the Kentucky and Ohio state senates and an Ambassador Award from the city of Murray.
Pamela Kaylor holds a doctorate degree in Communication and a graduate certificate in Women’s Studies from Ohio University, a master’s degree in Organizational Communication and two undergraduate degrees (Sociology with an Archaeology minor and Organizational Communication) from Murray State University.
Before coming to OHIO Lancaster, Dr. Kaylor taught at Ohio State University, Ohio Dominican University, and Murray State University in their communication programs.
