Quarters to Semesters Transition: A Commitment to Students

For 206 years, Ohio University has found ways to inspire learning, encourage discovery, and challenge students to discover their potential. As Ohio University prepares to transition from quarters to semesters in 2012, it is important to affirm our commitment to the academic success of our students and to pledge that students will receive excellent advising and timely information during this transition. Ohio University’s two-fold promise is as follows:

  • An Ohio University transition student will not experience a delay to his or her anticipated degree completion.Ohio University is committed to working with enrolled students on the quarter calendar to ensure all can meet their graduation dates. Transition students will be fully informed of how to continue their academic progress and complete their degrees through the use of intensive advising and technology designed for this purpose.

Students making acceptable progress toward a degree who

► maintain a full-time course load,
► earn passing grades and meet minimum grade requirements in courses,► meet with their advisors and follow advising directives, and
► satisfy graduation degree requirements specified in the catalog

should be able to graduate without delay regardless of the academic calendar transition.

  • An Ohio University transition student will not incur increased costs for degree completion as a result of the transition. The cost to attend Ohio University for an entire academic year will not be affected by the move to a new academic calendar. Tuition and fees as well as financial aid and scholarships will be divided between two semesters versus three quarters in an academic year. Ohio University will continue to offer a monthly payment plan that will allow students and their families to budget education expenses over the course of an academic year.
