PBIO 4180J - Writing for the Science Researcher


Current research literature will provide students with opportunities to learn the skills needed for successful written communication in graduate school or an academic career in the sciences. No credit toward major.

Requisites: 15 Hours in BIOS or PBIO and (Jr or Sr)

Repeat/Retake Information: May be retaken two times excluding withdrawals, but only last course taken counts.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Be able to tailor writings for different audiences ranging from the scientific community to the general public.
  • Be able to use correct grammar, punctuation, transitions, and other mechanics in their writing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to produce scientific documents such as abstracts, scientific posters, manuscripts, and job application packets.
  • Learn to retrieve, critically evaluate and synthesize scientific information from a variety of sources including the primary literature.
  • Learn to review and edit his/her own work and the work of others.
