Title: "Counselor Education: Legacy, Leadership, and the Future of the Profession"
Speaker: J. Melvin Witmer, Ohio University Professor Emeritus of Counselor Education

J. Melvin Witmer taught at Ohio University for 23 years from 1966 until early retirement in 1989 when he was appointed by the University as Professor Emeritus of Counselor Education. Besides a Ph.D. in Counseling and Guidance from Florida State University in 1967, Dr. Witmer was credentialed as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Psychologist in the State of Ohio and also a National Certified Counselor. During his tenure at Ohio University, Dr. Witmer received 18 professional awards and honors from state professional organizations, colleagues, and Ohio University. When Dr. Witmer retired from full-time teaching in 1989, the Counselor Education faculty established the Creative Altruism Award in his honor.
