He received a master's degree in student personnel administration from the University of Dayton in 1971, and a doctorate in counselor education and higher education administration from the University of Toledo in 1974. Since 1989, he has served in various collegiate roles from associate dean of the graduate school and minority programs at the University of Florida to provost and vice president for academic affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. He was named the 1996 Outstanding Alumnus of the College of Education at Ohio University. Currently, Parham serves as the Activity Director for the YMCA/Children's Hospital and as a Graduation Coach at South High School in Columbus, Ohio. Previously he worked for the Minnesota Vikings during their 2008-09 season and as an Instructor for Columbus Africentric Early College. In 2008, Parham was one of thirty individuals nationwide to be selected for the NCAA's Future Coaches Academy and AFCA Conference in Anaheim, CA. During that period he completed the In NCAA/AFCA Professional Development Series. Teacher Education Title: "Building scalable interventions for young children: Changing learning trajectories through schooling experiences" Speaker: Dr. Laura Justice, professor at The Ohio State University's School of Teaching and Learning Dr. Laura Justice's education includes: B.A. '92 (English), B.S.Ed. '94 (English Education), M.Ed. '96 (Special Education), Ph.D. '00 (Speech Pathology). She has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her career including the Presidential Early Career Award in Science and Engineering (from President G. W. Bush) and a Fulbright Scholar Award. Most recently, she was awarded the Medal of Merit by the Ohio University Alumni Association. Counseling and Higher Education Title: "Counselor Education: Legacy, Leadership, and the Future of the Profession" Speaker: J. Melvin Witmer, Ohio University Professor Emeritus of Counselor Education J. Melvin Witmer taught at Ohio University for 23 years from 1966 until early retirement in 1989 when he was appointed by the University as Professor Emeritus of Counselor Education. Besides a Ph.D. in Counseling and Guidance from Florida State University in 1967, Dr. Witmer was credentialed as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Psychologist in the State of Ohio and also a National Certified Counselor. During his tenure at Ohio University, Dr. Witmer received 18 professional awards and honors from state professional organizations, colleagues, and Ohio University. When Dr. Witmer retired from full-time teaching in 1989, the Counselor Education faculty established the Creative Altruism Award in his honor. '97 (Secondary Education), Ph.D. '03 (Reading/Language Arts Education) Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) Title: "Leading Change in Higher Education and Student Affairs: Our Legacy and Our Future" Speaker: Dr. Dan Evans, Executive Dean of Regional Higher Education and Vice Provost for E-Learning and Strategic Initiatives Dr. Dan Evans currently serves as the chief operating officer for regional campuses. Working with campus deans and UORC staff, he coordinates the implementation of regional campus strategic plans and other day-to-day activities. Prior to that appointment, Dr. Evans served as dean for OU-Southern and dean of Wright State University's Lake Campus in Celina, Ohio. From 1981 to 1994, he held several administrative positions at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio, serving his last four years as assistant vice president of academic affairs. Dr. Evans earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1973 and a doctoral degree in higher education administration in 1990, both from Ohio University. He also received a master's degree in counseling from Morehead State University in 1978. Human and Consumer Sciences Education Title: "Educator to Entrepreneur" Speaker: Lori Pisching, owner of Loralie's Baking Company Lori Pisching graduated from Ohio University in 1977 with a degree in Home Economics Education. After graduation, Pisching served as the Naturalization Clerk for the U.S. District Court in Denver. Then, she moved back to Ohio in 1982 and was hired by Wendy's International as their Home Economist and then by Rax Restaurants as a Product Development Manager. In 1986, she resigned from Rax and started her own business, Loralie's Brownies, Inc. She catered on the PGA Golf Tour for eight years, and her company, Catering on the Green, was awarded the exclusive catering and concessions contract for all PGA events managed by PGA Championship Management. In 2008, the company launched an interactive website promoting the brownies and confections.
