JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Adler School of Professional Psychology is currently seeking a Chair for the Department of Counseling. This position will report to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and is responsible for overseeing academic programs. The Chairs serve as the primary link between the department and the VPAA. This position is administrative while involving faculty and curricular involvement does not include teaching.
QUALIFICATIONS:

 *   A demonstrated history of successful academic administrative experience
 *   A terminal degree in counseling, education or psychology
 *   Management and mentoring skills to oversee the academic programming of 6+ master level programs in counseling and sub-specialty areas
RESPONSIBILITIES:

The general responsibilities of the Chairs are to:

 *   Provide leadership to their departments
 *   Collaboratively create a shared vision of the mission and goals of the academic programs among faculty members
 *   Coordinate the strategic planning process as it relates to academic programs
 *   Ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are developed, implemented and regularly reviewed

Due to the various departmental configurations across the School, a different articulation of responsibilities may be needed. The specific roles and responsibilities of Department Chairs and Program Directors follow.

LEADING THE DEPARTMENT

 *   Chair regular meetings and encourage communication between meetings by modeling ASPP's core behaviors
 *   Participate in Academic Affairs Chair Council Meetings, advocate for their department, engage in collaborative activities and communicate pertinent information back to department faculty
 *   Maintain a proactive and collaborative relationship with program directors
 *   Ensure departmental compliance of all Adler academic and administrative policies and procedures
 *   Provide input regarding recruitment and marketing activities with appropriate support staff
 *   Ensure administrative coverage for the department at all times throughout the year
 *   Ensure the timely development of departmental SLOAP report and other assessment data
 *   Facilitate the development, review and implementation of departmental strategic plans
 *   Liaise with program directors to ensure internal and external program standards

FACULTY EVALUATION AND FEEDBACK

 *   Review course evaluations and provide feedback to all faculty on a timely basis
 *   Conduct and oversee performance reviews of Program Directors.

COLLABORATION ACROSS THE SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY

 *   Maintain active links across all units of the Adler School
 *    Create and maintain external community linkages (exp: Advisory Boards) to support departmental goals and academic programs
 *   Collaborate with other department chairs in establishing joint programming initiatives and developing cooperative shared resources
 *   Serve as the primary liaison between the department and various faculty and institutional governance bodies and represent the interests of the department in areas affected by faculty governance

 TEACHING/WORK ASSIGNMENTS

 *    Review and approve departmental committee assignments
 *   Approve core faculty workload allocation forms
 *   Collaborate with Program Directors to ensure faculty search committee (both core and part time) search procedures are developed and implemented

 PROGRAM PLANNING

 *   Encourage and facilitate the development of new academic initiatives and support their implementation
 *   Provide final departmental approval for new/revised courses, new programs and facilitate the approval process through appropriate committees
 *   Manage relationships with Program Directors
 *   Monitor student progress and development
 *   Ensure content consistency with accreditation bodies
 *   Conduct and/or oversee annual performance reviews with core faculty regarding progress towards their goals
 *   Promote the interests of the department in areas of faculty teaching, service and scholarship
 *   Review and approve core faculty teaching assignments, workload and overage
 *   Assign adjunct faculty
 *   Participate actively in the selection, interviewing, evaluation and development of adjunct faculty
 *   Establish annual budget, plan and schedule new class cohorts in consultation with chair
