Western Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in the Department of Counseling. The starting date is negotiable, but no later than August 15, 2012.


The Department offers programs in School Counseling and Student Affairs along with CACREP-accredited programs in Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy. Currently, all programs are designed to comply with CACREP's 2009 Standards.  The department also offers a range of certificate programs. > for more information. In addition, the Department operates the Family Counseling Center. Courses are offered at the main and three regional campus sites.

Responsibilities include teaching, research, and service. The candidate selected for the position will be expected to provide outstanding instruction, maintain an active record of research and publication, and participate in professional service. The successful candidate will teach required Clinical Mental Health Counseling, core courses within the candidate's areas of interest and expertise, and supervise practicum and internship students.

Requirements are a doctorate from a CACREP accredited counselor education and supervision program, training and experience as a Mental Health Counselor, eligibility for licensure as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Kentucky, history of participation in relevant professional organizations, and demonstrated potential for scholarly productivity. Experience and training in addictions counseling is highly desired.
