The mission of the NRTC is to enhance employment and independent living outcomes for individuals who are blind or visually impaired through research, training, education, and dissemination. Responsibilities of this position include using standard social science research techniques to design, organize, conduct, analyze, and disseminate applied research on blindness and visual impairment. This individual may provide leadership on an existing study and will assist with the implementation of other existing studies. He or she will be expected to work both collaboratively and independently to identify and pursue external funding to support future research. Minimum qualifications for an Assistant Research Professor: * A terminal degree in rehabilitation, psychology, special education, sociology, or a related field. * Evidence of research productivity. * Excellent written and verbal skills. * Expertise in data management, quantitative methodology, and statistical analyses. * Expertise using a variety of software, including spreadsheets and statistical packages; and at least one year of experience in a research setting. Preferred qualifications include: * Experience in blindness research or service. * Experience working with large, secondary datasets. * Training in measurement and instrument development; and ability to conduct analyses using a variety of statistical techniques including Structural Equation Modeling and Hierarchical Linear Modeling. While research experience in the blindness field is preferred. * Candidates who demonstrate research and statistical competence, in combination with an expressed interest in exploring blindness and low vision as a new program of research, will be considered. ABD applications will be considered, but candidate must possess their PhD prior to employment start date. To begin as an Associate Research Professor, in addition to meeting the above criteria, a successful candidate must have consistently demonstrated ability to perform at a level of excellence in research appropriate for the rank.
