Good to know progress is being made on Phylonyms. In general, if there are any newsworthy tidbits appropriate for public release, please pass them along so that they can be posted to social media. I've seen a few people conjecture that the PhyloCode is dead because nothing new has been heard in a while. (Was there supposed to be an ISPN meeting in 2010?) Kevin's right that the primary purpose of my project, Names on Nodes, is to automate the application of names to phylogenetic hypotheses. David is right that it did include a database at one point. However, it was taking me forever to get the project done precisely because of that database. Once I admitted to myself that this was a superfluous component that could be added in later (or, better yet, replaced with RegNum), I actually got the dang thing done rather quickly. You can see the public alpha here: http://namesonnodes.org/ (It was presented at last summer's iEvoBio meeting.) Nico can say more about RegNum. My understanding is that it is done and ready to be deployed whenever Phylonyms is published. (I have a local copy that I was going to try integrating with Names on Nodes, but unfortunately I have not had the time.) -- T.
