Food for discussion! A separate discussion we haven't had in enough detail yet is the one about publication _dates_. Many journals now publish online (in the final format) something like half a year before a paper version comes out. Some of these journals make very explicit that they consider the date of electronic publication, after which no more changes are possible, to be the date of publication. Other journals do the same except that final page numbers are not available before dead-tree publication. Yet others publish uncorrected proofs online, and so on... -------- Original-Nachricht -------- Betreff: Fwd: [iczn-list] FW: e-publishing in botany also formally accepted at IBC. Discussion continues on the ICZN mailing list as to whether and how the zoological code can follow suit. At present, it seems that the ICZN may be hamstrung by the slow and clumsy procedures mandated by its constitution. Further bulletins as events warrant. -- Mike. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Donat Agosti < agosti at amnh.org > Date: 30 July 2011 03:14 Subject: [iczn-list] FW: e-publishing in botany also formally accepted at IBC. To: ICZN list < iczn-list at afriherp.org > Sorry for crossposting Donat ================== The Resolution 5 concerning decisions made at the Nomenclature Section at the International Botanical Congress has been accepted with a huge majority at the closing ceremony, and with that the regulation regarding e-publications and others will come in effect. There was an intervention that multiple formats should be used for publishing, not just pdf. Below the language. ======== Resolution 5 The XVIII International Botanical Congress, in Melbourne, Australia, resolves that the decisions of its Nomenclature Section with respect to the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (now to be the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants), noting with interest that specified types of electronic publication are now effective for nomenclature purposes, that descriptions of new taxa may now appear in English or Latin, that, for valid publications, new names of fungi must include citation of an identifier issued by a recognized repository that will register the name, and that the Code will henceforth provide for a single name for all fungi and for all fossils falling under its provisions, as well as the appointment of a officers and members of the nomenclature committees, made by the section during its meetings on 18-22 July, be accepted. ======== With that the move into the e-publishing age is made by the botanists. It will be interesting to see, how the zoological community is going to react.
