Powerful Geography is an initiative of the National Center for Research in Geography Education (NCRGE) to improve awareness and appreciation of geography’s applicability to student preparation for life, work, and citizenship. One major goal of the study is to gather evidence of how geographic knowledge informs and enhances work and civic engagements in communities across the nation. How can YOU help? The AAG invites professional geographers of all backgrounds and areas of expertise to participate in this study. If you have an undergraduate or graduate degree in geography (or closely-related field) and are currently employed in a business, government, nonprofit or academic organization, we would like to hear from you! We need volunteers to participate in interviews, surveys, and case studies beginning in 2019. Please complete a short questionnaire at the link below to tell us about yourself and how you would like to be involved in the Powerful Geography study. Responses will be used by the AAG to develop research samples in every state. By participating in this study, you will join fellow geographers in supporting geography and geography education at all levels. Sharing information about your professional and civic experiences will add an important perspective to understanding the value of geography as a school subject, academic discipline, and career field. You will aid AAG’s efforts to communicate the vital contributions of geographers to economic development, environmental protection, and societal well-being. The results of this study will inform future development of K-12 geography curriculum standards. AAG will also produce a variety of outreach resources for undergraduate and graduate student recruitment, advising, and mentoring.
