Hello Graduates, Dr. Moore and Dr. Kessler, Please take a look at the email below. If you are interested in the use of mobile devices in school, help Dr. Juarez with his work! He is seeking feedback on the remote lab that his group has designed. He is willing to share what he learns and for others to also use the software in their home countries as it is all open source. It is always a good idea to help out when possible as you may never know when you will need someone to help with your own research! :) Happy Holidays, Dr. Franklin "A teacher affects eternity; [she]he can never tell where the influence stops." - Henry Adams Dr. Teresa Franklin Professor Emerita Educational Studies-Instructional Technology The OHIO Group CAEP International Committee Fulbright Research Scholar to Turkey 2013-14 The Gladys W. and David H. We have been focusing on the use our remote labs (real labs controlled using the internet) along with mobile devices in science classes, in primary and secondary public schools. In Brazil, were teachers can work up to 60 hours per week in class, teaching crowded classrooms and a huge number of classes, public schools do not receive enough investment. In average, schools here have 1 computer for each 10 students, only 28.9% of Brazilian public schools have libraries and only 7% have science labs. We have running 6 remote labs so far, and other 5 are being tested and are expected to be available soon. In addition to the labs, we developed teaching material (lesson plans, booklets and quizzes) and technical manuals in order to facilitate use and replication. Furthermore, we also have a program that trains teachers to use technology in class. We provide a Moodle server and tablets, and our team helps teachers in schools to use the virtual environment and mobile apps in their classes. I would like to invite you to access this link ( http://relle.ufsc.br<http://relle.ufsc.br/ >) and, if possible, send us your opinion or suggestion. Your ideas can be very important to the success of our initiative..
