Program Description
The counselor-in-residence program places professionally supervised mental health clinicians directly into residence halls to address the mental health concerns of residents and Housing and Residence Life staff.
The objective of the program is to support the academic and personal growth of students through the provision of on-site and easily accessible consultation and mental-health support services.
Services include:
- Providing availability to residents for mental health consultation and brief counseling. Brief counseling includes:
- Weekly, drop-in hours
- Appointments with self-referred and staff-referred students
- Group or individual follow-up sessions in response to emergencies within the residential community
- Preventative and psycho-educational programming
- Follow-up services to residents and staff following crisis situations
- Consultation with Housing and Residence Life staff on mental-health issues
Eligibility
Counselors-in-residence are doctoral students in Clinical Psychology or Counselor Education programs who have a master's degree and have completed at least two years of supervised clinical training.
