Ohio University President Lori Stewart Gonzalez has named Mary Elizabeth Miles as OHIO’s Vice President for Human Resources effective immediately. Miles has served in this role as an interim since November 2023.
“Although she only joined the Ohio University community five months ago, Mary Elizabeth has already made positive change and has established herself as a collaborative and thoughtful leader,” President Gonzalez said. “Mary Elizabeth is the right leader to advance our commitment to the world of work. She has a proven record of supporting and promoting people, culture, and engagement, and I am thrilled that she has agreed to serve in this critical role.”
Miles, who most recently served as Vice President for Human Resources at the University of Louisville (UofL), is a veteran human resource professional with nearly three decades of experience in both the public and private sector. She is experienced in employee relations, conflict management, policy development, EEO/labor law compliance and staff development.
Recognized for her commitment to the development, guidance and mentorship of employees, Miles is a visionary leader who most recently led her team at UofL through a two-year implementation of a new ERP system, WorkDay, while developing a Total Rewards Strategy, which resulted in market-competitive jobs with job growth paths for employees.
Miles holds a bachelor of arts in sociology and a master of science in justice administration from the University of Louisville, and she is a trained mediator for ADA workplace disputes and divorce and child custody.
“I am truly humbled by this appointment and would like to thank President Gonzalez for her trust and support,” Miles said. “Ohio University is a special place because of its people, and I look forward to serving the faculty and staff as we move forward to implement our dynamic strategies for OHIO’s future.”
