The following message was shared with Ohio University students on the Athens campus on Oct. 21, 2024.
Dear students,
The Halloween season can be an exciting time for all with many opportunities for campus and community fun, including the City of Athens’ upcoming annual celebration.
Regardless of your academic or social plans this week, remember to prioritize safety and respect in support of our collective responsibility to look out for one another.
Making and communicating plans:If you’re attending Halloween events, plan for your safe return home, and surround yourself with trusted friends. If you or your roommates have guests, communicate both the rules for your home and the standards of our community. Remember, those in the residence halls who plan to host a registered guest (limit one guest per resident) this weekend are both personally and financially responsible for any violations of OHIO’s Student Code of Conduct or the Housing and Residence Life Student Housing Handbook .
Supporting your fellow Bobcats:If you see someone in need of medical assistance or community support, take action. As always, if you see something that could cause imminent harm to you or others, call 911 immediately.
Making respect visible together:Across OHIO, we’re proud to celebrate and support our community by setting expectations for engaging across differences. From choosing your Halloween costume to interacting with others on and off campus, remember to uphold Ohio University’s standards and help foster a culture of respect amongst your friends, neighbors and visitors.
Finding on-campus events:Ohio University will be home to numerous engaging activities throughout the week, and many of our residence halls will be hosting fun programming throughout the weekend; additionally, from a spooky presentation about the lure of mysterious creatures across Ohio to Pumpkin Painting and Saturday’s home OHIO Football game , there will also be plenty of ways for each of us to join together and celebrate the season. Check out OHIO’s Calendar of University Events for a comprehensive list of campus activities.
Thank you for representing Ohio University with pride and looking out for your fellow Bobcats.
In Bobcat Pride,
