Software downloads

OIT offers a number of software packages to the University or to specific groups like faculty, staff, or students at no cost or at a reduced cost. Our Licensed Software page lists all the available titles.

Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365 applications , such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, are essential to success at Ohio University. Anyone with an active OHIO email address can access Microsoft 365 in a web browser, and all students and instructors have access to the downloadable applications. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)

OHIO’s Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) allows users to connect to a virtual computer to access multiple software titles without downloading. These software applications are licensed to the University and free to users. VDI also allows Mac users to access Windows tools unavailable for the macOS, such as Microsoft Publisher.

Description and Access

Blackboard is a Learning Management System (LMS) where faculty can post course-related materials, class assignments, and grades. Blackboard is being phased out and will be replaced by Canvas over the next few semesters.

You can access Blackboard in your web browser at  blackboard.ohio.edu .

Canvas is OHIO's new Learning Management System (LMS), where instructors can provide course materials, allow students to submit assignments, and post grades. 

All OHIO instructors, staff, and students can access Canvas in your web-browser at canvas.ohio.edu

Go OHIO, the official app for Ohio University, allows students to access real-time personal information such as grades, GPA, class schedules, account balances, financial aid, and more.

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) protects you against lost or stolen passwords by adding a verification step to your OHIO login with the Microsoft Authenticator app. 

Microsoft Forms creates simple surveys and forms.  Comparison: Microsoft Forms vs. Qualtrics helps you determine which tool is right for you.

  • You can access the Forms app  from the top left "waffle" app launcher icon while using any Microsoft 365 tool in your browser.

Microsoft Excel uses spreadsheets to make calculations, graph data, and collaborate with others.

Microsoft OneDrive is a file storage service and syncs to other Microsoft products. Learn more on the OneDrive Help and Resources page

Microsoft OneNote is a digital notetaking tool for capturing information and data across all your devices. The desktop version of OneNote comes included with Microsoft 365.

Microsoft Outlook is used to access your OHIO email and calendar. For more information, view the Help and Resources: Catmail and Microsoft Outlook Calendar page.

Microsoft PowerPoint is used to develop engaging presentations.

Microsoft Teams is a team-based collaboration tool that provides audio or video calls, channeled conversations, instant messaging, and document collaboration. Learn more on the Microsoft Teams Help and Resource page.

Microsoft Word is a word processing tool with additional collaboration features. 

Panopto is a cloud-based application for recording lectures and sharing videos with others. 

Qualtrics is an easy to use, powerful tool for creating, distributing, and analyzing online surveys. Comparison: Microsoft Forms vs. Qualtrics helps you determine which tool is right for you.

Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) is a secure, web-based application for building and managing online surveys and databases for research applications. REDCap is ideal for projects collecting data in community settings and in multi-site projects such as clinical trials.

Top Hat is an instructional tool to create, adopt, and customize educational resources for courses. Students may use this tool to take live polls and quizzes, access digital textbooks, or complete assignments.

Web CMS provides an easy-to-use interface that allows users to author, administer, and manage web pages without requiring the user to have extensive knowledge of web markup and programming languages. The Website Help Hub contains tons of resources to help you create and edit user-friendly webpages.
