Ohio University Eastern is conveniently located just off of I-70 in eastern Ohio, about 15 miles west of Wheeling, West Virginia.

  • Shannon Hall

    Shannon Hall on OHIO's Eastern Campus

    Wilson Shannon Hall was constructed and opened in 1967. Shannon Hall, the academic building of the Eastern campus, was named after the first-born native Ohio Governor, Wilson Shannon. The building is constructed of red brick and the front exterior is adorned with four white columns. The building consists of three floors.

  • Great Western Schoolhouse

    Great Western Schoolhouse

    The Great Western School is located on the west side of the campus adjacent to National Road. It was built in 1870 by the Clark Construction Company. The clay for the hand-made bricks was taken from the farm pond. Roof support beams were hand-hewn from trees in the schoolyard. The iron bell which is housed in the cupola was cast by the J.B. Foote Company in Fredericktown, OH. This school remained in use until 1952. The National Trail Chapter #348 of International Questers restored the building in 1976 as a Bicentennial project. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Quester Chapter continues to maintain the school and provides tours and educational classes to visitors throughout the year.

  • Shaeffer Campbell Covered Bridge

    Shaeffer Covered Bridge on OHIO's Eastern Campus

    The Shaeffer Campbell Covered Bridge, located on the College Pond, is east of the campus. The bridge was originally built in 1891 in Fairfield County. Rescued from destruction in the late 1960’s, it was reconstructed on the present site in 1975.

Directions

Getting to Ohio University Eastern from the west:

  • Take Interstate 70 east to exit 213. At the bottom of the exit ramp, turn left onto National Road and drive for half a mile. Turn right into OHIO Eastern's entrance and follow the road up to OHIO Eastern's Shannon Hall.

Getting to Ohio University Eastern from the east:

  • Take Interstate 70 west to exit 213. At the stoplight at the end of the exit ramp, turn left and go across the bridge to the stoplight. Turn right onto National Road, and drive for three-fourths of a mile. Turn right into OHIO Eastern's entrance and follow the road up to OHIO Eastern's Shannon Hall.
