Congratulations on receiving a scholarship or grant from the Office of Global Opportunities (OGO)!
This website outlines the general details of your OGO scholarship/grant including any steps you need to take to have the funds released and disbursement information.
Refer to your award notification emailfrom OGO to find the details, including:
- which scholarship or grant you have been awarded
- amount of the award you will receive
- the program for which it is awarded
OGO works with the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships to release all awards as part of your OHIO Financial Aid Offer for the term of travel. Refer to their Study Abroad Guide for more info about applying financial aid to a study away program.
Remember: Each award within the OGO Common Application is processed separately. As award decisions are finalized, you will receive a separate email letting you know the outcome of each specific award. This may take up to one month after the application deadline for all decisions to be finalized.
General Award Details:
- Awards must be utilized on the program indicated in your scholarship application and indicated in your award letter. If your program changes or you elect not to use the award, notify the Office of Global Opportunities immediately.
- You must be a current, degree-seeking student at Ohio University at the time of travel.
- Each scholarship must be used in accordance with the eligibility requirements outlined on the associated scholarship page .
If you are changing programs:
Your scholarship application was reviewed based on the program you indicated in your application. If your plans have changed and you are going to attend another experience, you must:
- Notify the Office of Global Opportunities ASAP.

The award is only eligible for programs offered during the same award cycle. Award Cycles are:
- Summer, Fall, or Academic Year Programs
- Winter Break, Spring Semester, or Spring Break Programs
- Your eligibility for the award will need to be verified and your award amount may be decreased, as award amounts are determined by location, format and length of your program.

What do I need to do?
- Register for coursework -Your program director and/or OGO program coordinator will provide instructions for completing course registration. If you have any issues registering for the coursework, please contact global.opportunities@ohio.edu .
- Complete your pre-departure requirements within the OGO Student Portal. After you’ve been accepted to a program, you will find additional tabs which must be completed before your award can be disbursed.

Discuss your global program with the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.Even if you do not receive or plan on utilizing any other type of aid - you will need to meet with the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships to ensure your cost of attendance reflects your participation in a global experience.
- The maximum amount a student may receive from all campus - administered scholarships, including departmental, endowed, and University-funded scholarships, cannot exceed the cost of attendance established annually by Ohio University. This OGO Scholarship amount may be reduced or removedif you have already met your cost of attendance for the term when combined with other aid.
How will I receive these funds?
When OGO has confirmed all requirements have been met, this award will be directly applied to your student account to offset costs associated with the program. You can expect to see the award amount showing on your student account during the first week of classes at Ohio University during your term of travel.
Your OGO scholarships and other financial aid will be released starting the first week of classes of the term associated with your travel. Enroll in direct deposit prior to departure if you plan to utilize excess financial aid while you are abroad. You can enroll in direct deposit through your OHIO Student Center .
If you owe charges to Ohio University, your aid will be applied to your student account first. If your aid exceeds your charges, your refund will be issued to you in the form of a check or direct deposit. For more information, please visit the Office of the Bursar's website .

- Complete the Global Experience Transfer Credit process within the OGO Student Portal . After you’ve been approved for your program, you will find additional tabs which must be completed before your award can be disbursed.
- Register for coursework -During your time abroad, you will be registered for a 0 credit placeholder STDY course. You will receive a pre-approval for this course 1-2 months prior to your program start date. If you have any issues registering for the coursework, please contact global.opportunities@ohio.edu .

How will I receive these funds?
Funding from OHIO will not be released until OGO has confirmed that you’ve completed all requirements AND you have arrived onsite and enrolled in your coursework. To confirm arrival and enrollment, you will log into the OGO Student Portal and complete the "Onsite" tab for your program to update your contact information while abroad. Exchange participants will have their VOE completed by an OGO staff member once they arrive onsite.
Once your Onsite tab and VOE have been completed, your award(s) will be directly credited to your student account through the Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. This may take up to two weeks to process.
Your financial aid will be disbursed after your departure. Enroll in direct deposit prior to departure if you will utilize excess financial aid while you are abroad. You can enroll in direct deposi t through your OHIO Student Center. It is critical that all requirements are met before you leave.

Your reflection will be shared with the scholarship donors and/or committees to demonstrate the value of their commitment to supporting global experiences. The letter or video should briefly outline your global experience and how the receipt of the scholarship(s) impacted you.
