Poverty Advocacy: Lessons I have learned throughout my career

This presentation will reflect on Jack Frech’s 50 years of experience working with and advocating for the poor in Southeast Ohio. Jack honed his administrative and public policy skills when he served as the director for the Athens County Department of Job and Family Services (JFS) for more than 33 years. In that position, Frech brought the JFS out of a $200,000 deficient to more than $1 million in cash balance. He also expanded programs beyond basic cash assistance, food stamps and Medicaid to job training, adult basic literacy and health care programs. Jack is currently a Senior Executive in Residence at the Voinovich School, and provides technical assistance, conducts research and prepares funding proposals on poverty-related issues for the Mayors’ Partnership for Progress.
