Scope and Content
The Evelyn Luchs Collection documents EL's life from her teen years through the time of her death. The collection includes diaries; yearbooks; greeting cards; correspondence, including love letters; newspaper clippings of EL's magazine columns; photographs; and a copy of a book written by EL's son Lewis Luchs entitled Children of the Manse describing what it was like to be adopted and the search for his biological family.

Biography of Evelyn Luchs
Evelyn Luchs (EL) was a magazine columnist, the first woman appointed to the Board of Trustees of Ohio University, and wife of Fred Luchs (FL), a prominent Presbyterian minister in Athens, Ohio. A 1921 graduate of Stuebenville High School in Stuebenville, Ohio, EL had been Valedictorian of her class as well as class treasurer and active in the debate team and associate editor of the yearbook. She later went on to attend Ohio University (OU) and received her graduate degree in education at the Teachers College at Columbia University in New York in 1931. Shortly there after she married FL, a young minister. The couple ended up adopting four children. With her new family in her house, EL wrote magazine columns about their adoption and family life experiences.
