Ohio University is planning moments of silence and remembrance in honor of the lives lost and lives affected from the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. 

On Friday, Sept. 10, OHIO President Dr. Hugh Sherman, Director of the OHIO Veterans and Military Services Center Lt. Col. (Ret.) Terry St. Peter, Ohio University Police Department Capt. Mike Meek, who is also a veteran who served in Afghanistan, and other veteran and military students will lower the flag in front of Cutler Hall to give respects. 

On Saturday, Sept. 11, moments of silence will be observed at these times:

  • 8:46 a.m. – When American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower.  
  • 9:03 a.m. – When United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower.
  • 9:37 a.m. – When American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. 
  • 10:03 a.m. –  When United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania after passengers and crew members onboard attempted to retake the plane.
