Una Mujer Fantástica

Una Mujer Fantástica (2017), also known as A Fantastic Woman, is a Chilean drama film about a transgender woman named Marina (Daniela Vega) who works as a waitress and nightclub singer in Santiago. The film follows Marina as her life is upended by the sudden death of her older boyfriend, Orlando (Francisco Reyes), who is 20 years her senior: 

Marina and Orlando have recently moved in together and are planning for the future. On Orlando's birthday, he gives Marina a note promising tickets to a resort, but he wakes up in the middle of the night feeling unwell and falls down the stairs. Marina takes him to the hospital, where he dies from a brain aneurysm. Marina is devastated by Orlando's death, but her distress worsens when she tries to notify his family. Doctors don't allow her to see or touch Orlando's body because they don't consider her family, and she is treated like a criminal instead of a respected mourner. The film also explores the lack of public policies for trans people in Chile, where the trans community faces high levels of discrimination
