Contemporary History Institute | Dr. Luke Griffith, March 21

The Contemporary History Institute hosts Dr. Luke Griffith discussing Unraveling the Gray Area Problem: The United States and the INF Treaty on March 21 at 4:45 p.m. in Bentley Hall 136.

Griffith received both his Master of Arts in history (2012) and Ph.D. in history (2018) from Ohio University. He also earned a Certificate in Contemporary History from the Contemporary History Institute during his time at OU, and in 2017 was awarded CHI’s Baker Peace Fellowship. His completed dissertation - "Green Cheese" and "the Moon": Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and the Euromissiles – served as the basis for Unraveling the Gray Area Problem (Cornell University Press, 2023), in which he examines the US role in why the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty took almost a decade to negotiate and then failed in just thirty years.

Griffith currently serves Professor of Government and History at New Mexico Junior College, where he specializes in U.S. history, Western Civilization, and the American government. Alongside his work as a professor, he is a faculty leader and adviser for the College's Film Club. Prior to joining New Mexico Junior College, Dr. Griffith worked for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Foundation and Institute as a visiting postdoctoral fellow and with RAND Corporation as a Stanton Nuclear Security Post-Doctoral Fellow. He has also taught at Washington State Community College, the University of Rio Grande, and Rio Grande Community College.
