The Contemporary History Institute hosts Dr. Yunus Dumbe discussing “Blind Love and Naivety: An Appraisal of the Influences of Social Network in the Biographies of Radicalized Students in University Campuses in Ghana” on Nov. 30 at 4:45 p.m. in Bentley Hall 132.

Dumbe is Senior Lecturer in Religious Studies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kwasi, Ghana, as well as holding a Glidden Visiting Professor at Ohio University during the Fall of 2023. His research focuses on religious movements and more specifically Islamic movements in sub-Saharan Africa, utilizing ethnographic methods and surveys to examine religious issues. His research interest includes Islam in Africa, Islamic revival and conversion, religion and politics, history of religions in Africa, the politics of Islamic NGOs humanitarian activities, Islamic radicalization and terrorism.

Dumbe has published more than a dozen peer-reviewed academic articles in publications such as the Annual Review of Islam in Africa , the Journal of the  Contemporary Study of Islam , and the Political Science Journal . He holds a Ph.D. in the Study of Religions from the University of Ghana, Legon and has taught at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, the Islamic University College in Accra, Ghana, and Södertörn University Stockholm, Sweden.
